Psoriasis can be a long and frustrating disease for a patient. Since there is no cure till now that has been found, and as it affects the skins appearance, this can really affect a patient’s general quality of life.

While the doctor would prescribe various medicines and other treatments to the patients, some steps can be taken on their own as well to prevent psoriasis.

First and fore most people who have psoriasis should at all times be careful with their skin. The scales and dry skin should never be picked at, since that would just make the skin worse. People who have psoriasis on their scalp should regularly use prescribed topical treatments along their medicated shampoos etc.

Patients should also avoid dry and cold weather, as this would make their skin extremely dry, in turn worsening the psoriasis.  Instead a humidifier should be used, to keep the skin moist, especially in the dry season.

Another great thing available easily and readily to treat psoriasis is sun exposure. And adequate amount (not too much) everyday would help prevent the worsening of psoriasis. It shouldn`t be too long though, because getting a sunburn would worsen the situation.

Although there is no official proof yet, but many researchers and doctors believe that psoriasis is related to stress, and can flare up when the person is stressed out. So one thing to do would be avoid and reduce stress in your life. This is easier to say than actually do but trying out yoga and other relaxing exercises might help.

Some also think that alcohol can increase psoriasis and that there is a connection between the two. So reduce the amount of alcohol that is consumed.  Anyway alcohol intake can be dangerous when taking strong medicines for psoriasis.

Experts say that people with the condition should exercise regularly, eat healthy and maintain their weight. Exercise can also help better a person`s mood, thus relaxing them and decreasing stress! Their diet should include fruits and vegetables.

Psoriasis doesn’t just affect a person physically but can also affect them emotionally as it robs their quality of life. Patients may feel frustrated with the way they look and get depressed. But all things possible to prevent and control psoriasis should be done so that it doesn`t ruin the patient’s life.
