Natural Ways to Treat Eczema

eczema treatment favorite plusEczema is an inflammatory skin disorder which affects the epidermis. It causes rashes and skin scaling to appear on different parts of the body. It also exhibits symptoms like blistering, crusting, dryness, flaking, itching, redness, etc.

Eczema can be acute or chronic and are most common in children and people living in dry areas. It is a result of a weak immune system that makes the skin dry. It reduces the skin’s ability to lock moisture, causing the skin cells to widen. Bacteria or irritants then fill this space resulting to eczema.

Environmental irritants, stress, and sweating are a few factors that trigger this condition. Regrettably, there is no ultimate cure for this skin problem; but, you can reduce the symptoms to a great extent.

Home Remedies for Eczema

Below are a few effective natural remedies for eczema that give safe results.

Virgin Coconut Oil

Virgin coconut oil has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that remove bacteria and reduces inflammation. It penetrates deep into the skin to prevent dryness. It has essential medium-chain fatty acids and vitamins E & K that soothe the skin.

What to Do:

  1. Clean the affected area with lukewarm water.
  1. Dry the area and apply some virgin coconut oil.
  1. Massage it onto the skin, so it gets well absorbed.
  1. Leave it on, then apply 1 to 2 more times within the day.

You may also consume 2 to 4 tablespoons of coconut oil daily to reduce eczema outbreaks.

One other alternative is to pour 1 cup of coconut oil in your bathtub filled with lukewarm water. Soak yourself for 30 to 45 minutes to reduce eczema.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal has anti-inflammatory properties that relieve irritation, itching, and pain caused by eczema. It also moisturizes the skin to reduce other discomforts associated with this skin disease.

What to Do:

  1. Add 1 to 2 cups of colloidal oatmeal to your bathtub filled with lukewarm water.
  1. Bathe in it for 15 to 20 minutes.
  1. Pat your skin dry using a soft towel.
  1. Apply some mild moisturizer on the affected area.

You may also mix one tablespoon of cold milk to 2 tablespoons of oatmeal to make a fine thick paste. Rub it on the affected area and rinse off with cold water after 15 to 20 minutes.

Turmeric

Curcumin is an active ingredient in turmeric. It exhibits anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties that protect the skin. It neutralizes free radicals in the skin and prevents irritation and pain.

What to Do:

  1. Saturate 1/2 tsp. of turmeric powder with milk to make a fine paste.
  1. Apply it on the affected area and wait for it to dry completely.
  1. Rinse off with water.

Do this twice daily until the itching and redness stop altogether.

You may also stir 1/2 tsp. of turmeric powder to 1 cup boiling water. Let it cool. Drink it as tea, or use it to wash the affected areas.

Including turmeric in your daily diet can provide fantastic results against eczema.

Neem

Neem has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. It can relieve you from itching, redness, skin irritation, and swelling. It also has vitamin E that can moisturize dry skin.

What to Do:

  1. Add one tablespoon Sesame oil, 1 tbsp. Turmeric root, and neem leaves in a blender.
  1. Make a fine paste and apply it on the affected areas.
  1. Wait for it to dry. Rinse off with warm water.

Do this once every day to get relief from eczema symptoms.

You may also pour a few drops of neem oil in your bathtub filled with warm water. Soak in it for a few minutes and pat your skin dry. Apply moisturizer to the affected areas.
